Total bastards...
PYRAMID HEAD
AKA:
Red Pyramid
Was a bastard in:
Silent Hill
So Who the Hell is he?
That depends on what incarnation you are
referring to really. There is the version from the
game who appears to be a representaion of
mes' (the main protagonist from Silent Hill 2)
sexual frustration and guilt. Then there is the
version from the Silent Hill film which is another
of the demonic manifestations of Alessa's rage
and vengeance. There are a few differences
between the two versions but in essence and
general appearance they are pretty much the
same - a big bloke in a dirty blood stained
apron who wears a massive metal pyramid-like mask on his head - hence the name (clever stuff huh?). This appearance, as many things are in Silent Hill, is a distortion of something that did exist in the real world, in this case the hoods that the executioners of the cult wore. It is the opinion of many that Pyramid Head's metal pyramid is actually part of him.
That’s not a knife…
Yes it is, and a really fucking big one it is too. One of Pyramid Head's most famous trademarks is the absolutely huge knife he carries around. Well I say carries but in fact, it is so big that he can't actually carry it and must drag it around instead. Handy for making a chilling scrapy metal noise to scare the pants of anybody who hears it. It is called the Great Knife and is especially handy for ramming through doors when he is attempting to reach victims hidden behind them. The fact that said doors are made of solid metal is of little concern to Pyramid Head. Worrying.
Why, for the love of God, Why??!!?
The film version of Pyramid Head is the most powerful agent of destruction available to the demonic little girl, Alessa who is responsible for turning the town into the weird other worldly hell town it is. She mainly wants revenge against the cult of religious fanatics who burned her almost to death and left her in mind-destroying agony. Of course she's not too picky about who dies however so the whole things probably just best left alone.
So what’s the damage?
The Pyramid Head of the game is probably best remembered for his, uh...amorous activities with other demons. The first time he is seen by the player he appears to be raping a misshapen creature which is made of four pairs of legs. I guess that's just what demonic representations of a scarred psyche's attitude to sex do for kicks though.
The film's version's crowning achievement hoever has to be when he snatches up a fleeing woman and in one movement rips her clothes from her - the saucy devil. He doesn't admire the view for long though as he then proceeds to rip the skin from her too, also in one swift movement. Messy.
It’s a million to one chance but it might just work…
There's no stopping Pyramid Head in either game or film. Bullets don't work and going toe to toe with him isn't much of a prospect if you want to stay on the right side of your skin i.e inside it. The only way to get rid of him is to deal with the forces which brought him into creation in the first place.
Words of wisdom:
Not really a man of words is Pyramid Head, actions speak louder than them according to popular belief and even more so when that action is something as utterly despicable and violent as Pyramid Head's typical pastimes - rape, murder and dismemberment.
