week 7 - You need hands... may 19th 2007
IN MY HEAD THIS WEEK...
WATCHING
Heroes
Season 1
It's all coming together for what is looking like a superb season finale in this show. Peter is finally becoming the badass we all knew he could be...cool.
24
Season 6 Episode 20
Oh dear. This show is now so ridiculous as to be simply irritating. previously Jack's impossible heroics were a guilty pleasure to get swept away with but now we have tiny female CTU office agents overpowering beefcake musclebound mercenaries. Where's that shark Jack?...
LOST
Season 3 Ep. 20
Some startling stuff going on in that funny old jungle. Who's this jacob fella then? And what about Mr. Locke huh?
Doctor Who
42
Nice little attempt at doing a '24' what with the real time conceit n' all. Fairly average episode though with a couple of highlights being the Doctor relying completely on Martha and admitting his fear as well as some hints at the mysterious Mr. Saxon...
LISTENING
Tenacious D
The Pick of Destiny (Soundtrack)
Great Rock opera-ish silliness from JB and KG. Beelezeboss is the real stand out.
Angry Johnny and the Killbillies
What's So Funny?
Still loving these guys and doing my best to get them known enough in the UK to warrant some sort of tour. Also hoping to get permission to use one of their songs for Small Pond. Very cool indeed.
What a relief!! After the balls up that occurred on the original shoot date for Small Pond (my 7 minute horror short currently in pre-production) with the special make up effects I have just finished a test of the effects with my new make up artist, Anna Sternik. Having not seen alot of her work before I wasn't entirely sure what to expect but she had been highly recommended so I was fairly confident she'd produce the goods.
And did she? I am absolutely fucking stoked to say a big YES to that! Despite some difficulties she'd encountered in which material to use she came up with a lovely effect. The effect in question occurs at the end of the film where our lead character (I won't call him a hero because he's a right bastard) gets what's coming to him and has his hands cut off. What we needed therefore was some nice bleeding stumps on a cheap budget. Anna supplied my stumps at an even cheaper price than I had expected so double helpings of Hell Yeah to her! Yeehaw indeed.
On other aspects of the production, all is gearing up for the shoot next weekend - shooting schedules are in place, storyboards are (very badly) drawn and cast and crew are all set and ready to do their thang. It's all pretty exciting actually and I'm really looking forward to shooting the damn thing! It's been so long in pre-production now due to various setbacks and changes in line-up that it will actually be weird not to have it to work on anymore. I'm sure that post- production will yield its own fair share of problems however....
Next week I'll report on the shoot then - hopefully some pics too if you're really lucky. See you then...
