The 13 Day Halloween Horror Film Challenge

You may have noticed that there hasn’t been an awful lot of new content appearing on the site over the last couple of weeks. This isn’t due to my sudden demise at the hands of Uwe Boll loving assassins I’m happy to report but rather due to the entirety of my time going into my entry in the fantastically snappily titled 13 Day Halloween Horror Film Challenge!

This is a film making competition run by the Budget Film maker website, the Film Club site and the good folk at Media Killer (where you can find an earlier film of mine called Haterage). The idea is that participants are given 13 days to write, shoot and edit a short horror film (under 10 minutes). The winners were then screened at a special event at the Bar Kick Venue in central London.

Well, what can I say? I entered the competition, made the film in the allotted time period and sent it off but unfortunately didn’t quite make the grade. Nuts. It was all a set up I tells ya! It was all political, those schmoe’s didn’t want a guy like me to win, a guy who aint in their pocket, a guy they can’t control! I’ll show ‘em though man, yeah I'm taking this all the way to the top, I'm going to City Hall with this. Then they’ll eat humble pie with egg on their face and bile in their throats. Yeah.

Well actually, in reality my film just wasn’t quite as good as the winning films. Bugger, I much preferred all that humble pie and bile stuff but there you go. I spend so much of my time pulling apart and criticising other people’s films I’ve got to learn to be realistic about my own. I will say however that I did think that my film was definitely better in some ways than some of the films that made it into the top ten. Judging films is such a subjective thing though, especially on an independent level such as this.

Now that all the films that entered are viewable online at any of the above-mentioned websites I’ve been wading my way through them and will start reviewing them over the next few days. I’m also going to set up a message board for any comments people would like to leave about any of the reviews or films themselves. I’m also quite happy to post multiple reviews of the same film so if anybody has something to say about any of the films why not share it? I’d also love to hear any comments about my own film – obviously I cannot write a review of it but if anyone else wants to I will be pleased to post it, even if you hate the film! I might hunt you down and kill you in revenge but I promise to post the review!

Aaaanyway, so far some of my favourites have been:

Damaged (sorry but I’ve got to root for my own film haven’t I?)

Itch (a top ten finalist)

ZZZ (the winning film)

Bound (another finalist)

The Night Shifters (a bizarre tale of vampire politicians).
